This all started with Jeremy Lang, Pela’s founder. He saw first hand the damage plastic was doing to our oceans while on a family vacation in Hawaii in 2010. Jeremy had the courage to spend years experimenting with new materials to try and find an alternative to plastic that could be used in everyday products.
Pela’s vision, which we share, is to create a waste-free future. Pela brands are accomplishing this goal by designing naturally made, biodegradable, and compostable products for everyday life. Four Paws One Planet
At Barxby, our dogs are family. We knew we could use our skills and knowledge to care for our dogs and help save the planet. So we got together and set out to change the way we show our pets and planet our love. In October of 2020, we created the Barx Bar and Zen Bar shampoo soap bars made from natural ingredients that are gentle on our pups’ fur and skin. We also designed and manufactured compostable packaging which means we aren’t perpetuating the plague of microplastics that have overrun our oceans and are being found in our bodies and our pets’ bodies.
In January of 2021, we launched the Barxby Care Kit that included a brush for extra soft fur, and a bamboo box to store our shampoo soap bars. Goodbye plastic bottles! In March of 2021, we added the Soothing Balm and Hot Spot Balm, both made with natural vegan ingredients and compostable packaging, that’s designed to bring relief to your pup’s skin and paws. We’re halfway through 2021, and we’re just getting started! We’re working on many novel product ideas that will help reduce microplastics around the world. Products like leashes, collars, dog beds, toys, food, and more!

"Compostable" Doesn't Always Mean Environmentally Friendly, Healthy, or Safe.
Many "compostable" plastic products are made using "oxo-biodegradable materials" which actually break down into the microplastics polluting our oceans and our bodies.
Globally, and on average, humans are consuming approximately 5 grams of plastic each week, which is the same amount as a plastic credit card.
We’re on a mission to create everyday dog products that aren’t reliant on any of these plastic pollutants, and instead, are made using natural ingredients that won’t harm us, our pets, or our planet.
So while other brands use the word “compostable” loosely, here at Barxby, we’re using it to mean exactly what you’d expect. We use it to say that all of our products, which have been meticulously analyzed by materials scientists, do not contain plastic pollutants or any materials that will break down into microplastics.
